Staff Accountant Co-op

I will be assisting with the tax preparation and tax filing of individuals and corporations either remotely or in-person. With the increase in customer volume during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I will help alleviate the workload the current full-time staff are experiencing during the tax busy season. My assistance will help boost employee morale as they will not have to work additional hours to complete work for their clients.

Sales and Marketing Intern

The internship I have accepted is a 4 month position where I will be working on various projects to help in “ShapeMeasure”’s growth, focusing on sales and marketing. Some of the tasks I will be doing this summer include: Website content creation and maintenance, Email or print marketing campaigns, Event organization (if allowed), Answering phones, taking orders, upselling, Market research, Implementing key metric tracking, and meeting targets for: clickthroughs, conversion rates, A/B testing, NPS, sends/saves, followers, etc, Assisting with invoicing/accounts receivables and other duties as assigned.

Business Development Coordinator

The role of the business intern is to help our Sales and Marketing teams execute our strategy to grow our nascent accounts sales channel, with a specific focus on supporting our account-based marketing strategy. This is an opportunity for the business intern to gain firsthand experience in the software development industry, execute a real?life marketing and sales strategy while receiving mentorship from our Sales and Marketing team, executives, and other advisors.

The Business Development Coordinator will support the Business Development Manager in advancing our marketing and sales capabilities, with a focus on executing our 2021 account-based marketing strategy. Our ABM strategy identifies accounts in key industries, develops targeted content, and engages with key stakeholders with the goal of expanding the number and type of enterprise clients.

Sales and Marketing Coordinator

As a sales and events based company in the high growth fashion industry, COVID-19 impacted Vancouver Fashion Week Inc. as it halted and slowed their show production. As a Sales and Marketing Coordinator, I will be supporting the sales and marketing division by working on research projects for a series of purposes; sponsorships, sales, school partnerships, and influencer research. I will also be the point of contact for designers all over the world.

The Tumour Cell Senescence Index: A Possible Tool to Identify Patients At High Risk of Treatment Failure During Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

While promoting the destruction of the majority of tumour cells, chemotherapy treatment in cancer patients also permits chemo-resistant, senescent tumour cells to survive. Such senescent cells can live off dead tumour cells during and after chemotherapy. They can then form new tumours, resulting in disease progression. We have recently observed that chemotherapy treatment also induces strong degradation of an important macromolecule in tumour cells called ribosomal RNA. High ribosomal RNA degradation [as measured by the RNA disruption assay (RDA)] predicts for complete tumour destruction and improved outcome in cancer patients. Low ribosomal RNA degradation predicts for chemo-resistant disease and disease progression. We hypothesize that the level of tumour senescence in tumours during treatment may improve the utility and efficacy of the RDA at identifying early in treatment patients at high risk of treatment failure and disease progression. Such patients might best be served by being quickly moved to alternative treatments.

SALES AND MARKETING COORDINATOR

Being a sales and event based company, the COVID-19 pandemic has halted Vancouver Fashion Week’s business. As the pandemic develops more positively, I will be providing support to their sales and marketing functions. To be more specific, as an intern, I will be conducting research projects for multiple purposes (including identifying new sales opportunities) while developing the company’s sales strategy. In summary, I will be assisting the company on their mission to nurture and support the Canadian fashion and design scene.

Intern – Remedi Wellness & Spa Ltd.

This marketing internship at Remedi Wellness & Spa Ltd., focuses on marketing Vancouver’s premiere medical aesthetics spa and on holistic wellness for clients. The internship will enlighten me about business operations pre and post-pandemic. This gives an opportunity to learn about a small business being impacted by COVID-19 and determine whether the strategies they use are useful or not. Anticipated project activities include: Gaining an in-depth knowledge of the current operations, the industry, assess the current e-commerce platform used by Remedi, an analysis of all social media platforms, providing recommendations on a new strategy as well as the implementation of said strategy

Bioconversion of wastes into polyhydroxyalkanoates and recovery of co-products at pilot scale – Year two

Sustainable biomaterials and biofuels are a critical matter that researchers are employed in. Based on sustainability issues different wastes such as paper mill activated sludge and waste cooking oil have been utilized for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) production. Large quantities of paper mill activated sludge is produced in North America, and its safe disposal in environment is a worldwide problem. Bioconversion of wastes for value-added products can be an alternative approach, where bioplastic production (PHA) will be an interesting approach in concern to present problem of petroplastics. Also, the simultaneous recovery of co-products (exopolysaccharides and proteins) using pure culture with PHA production can reduce the overall process cost. Several studies were done in last few decades to produce PHA using mixed microbial culture. However, PHA production using pure culture and utilization of hydrolyzed activated sludge with addition of extra industrial waste as a carbon source can be an alternative approach. INRS group isolated PHA producing microorganisms from activated sludge. Thus, we propose an innovative approach to use pure culture for PHA production using paper mill activated sludge and other waste substrates. The approach will investigate various strategies to enhance PHA accumulation, process validation and scale-ups, and process development for recovery of co-products.

Le monde évolue à un rythme très rapide et pour que le Québec devienne l’une des régions les plus innovantes du monde grâce aux conseils et au soutien du Conseil de l’innovation du Québec (CIQ), la province a besoin de savoir quoi mesurer et comment le mesurer. Le CIQ vient tout juste d’être fondé et il fait face à de nombreux défis. L’un d’eux est de concevoir des indicateurs d’innovation qui seront par la suite utilisés pour mieux comprendre l’innovation au Québec, cerner les principaux enjeux sur le sujet et développer des stratégies favorables à l’innovation. De la sorte, le projet Mitacs aidera l’organisme à délimiter une série d’indicateurs d’innovation qui jetteront les premières bases et alimenteront à plus long terme les réflexions sur les indicateurs d’innovation au Québec et au Canada.

Sector-specific Migration Matrices

International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for loss allowances are changing, and financial institutions are proactively adapting existing methodologies and developing new ones to remain compliant. The main ingredient in the myriad of evaluations that banks are required to perform for compliance is risk assessment. The first goal of this research project is to review best practice risk models, with a special focus on modeling the evolution of changes in creditworthiness for industry sectors. In particular the project aims to estimate and forecast the probability a portfolio of loans’ changes in creditworthiness, and thus becomes more or less risky. State of the arts machine learning and time-series techniques are used to improve forecasting abilities of the existing models and allow for model validation using different forecasting samples.
