Agricultural Export Logistics Intern

COVID-19 has impacted the core business activities of HOOH as with all companies. HOOH process and sell Canadian-grown hops to breweries around the world. With global trade activities shifting, HOOH require a solution to facilitating our export activities in the absence of physical trade shows.

My main project will be to study key export markets for hops, a key ingredient in making beer. I will also seek information about those markets from a wide range of sources, including trade ambassadors. Developing potential solutions for gaining access into those markets and working directly with management to build a plan to enter these markets.

The Outdoor Recreation Council of BC co-chairs the Provincial Trails Advisory Body (PTAB) that provides advice on the implementation of the Trails Strategy for British Columbia. An outstanding action is to establish a reliable and diverse funding model to maintain the viability of BC trails. This sector relies on volunteers; however, due to COVID-19, there has been a loss of funding opportunities and trail organizations have found it harder to attract volunteers. The intern with the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC will work with the outdoor recreation and trail sector to develop sustainable funding options that will support BC trails and trail volunteers.

Accounting and Finance Intern

Fusion Genomics can play a key role in combating COVID-19 and future pandemics. The intern can play a key role in ensuring that the company succeeds and is financially sustainable. The advantages that the company’s products can provide in combatting pandemics are:
• The company’s test can provide early detection of novel pathogens and thus enable authorities to prevent outbreaks turning into pandemics.
• New tests do not need to be developed as the company’s test can detect multiple diseases and work on novel pathogens.
• The company’s test seldom gives false positive or false negative results.
• Genetic analysis, provided by the test, can be used to identify the virus spread and source.
Fusion Genomics is in the process of raising a Series-A to bring its product to the market. It is in discussions with a number of VCs and anticipates closing the funding in the first half of 2021. The Accounting and Finance Analyst intern
will assist the CEO and CFO in raising the funding and in preparing the company to undergo due diligence. This work will be a key factor in closing the funding.
