Hybrid encryption and intrusion detection for an e-commerce database

The recent rapid growth of web-based applications and information systems has increased the risk exposure of databases and, thus, the security and protection of data from internal and external threats is more crucial than ever. Damage and misuse of data affect not only a single user or application, but may have disastrous consequences on an entire organization. The partner company’s database contains sensitive financial transactions information and customers can have direct and immediate online access to business information that pertains to them anywhere anytime. Therefore, the protection of the information database against malicious activity is critical. The proposed project aims at designing a multi-step database security system for an e-commerce application in which we will incorporate the latest advances in database security and machine learning research. While the first phase of the project aims at increasing the security of the database system, the second phase aims at the fast detection…

Accounting Business Process Internship

A newly merged accounting firm (two firms joined together in June) and are in the process of integrating our processes and technology. One of the accounting firms was remote and cloud-based while the other was predominately paper based and in the office. With the uptick in cases of Covid- 19, we’ve implemented a plan to shift our firm to online, cloud-based work to ensure we can work productively in a remote work environment. An intern would enable/support us as we develop processes and shift towards a fully cloud-based business.

BSI Application Claudia Griffin

The WinSETT Centre is a national not for profit organization working to retain and support women in SETT across Canada. Portions of our flagship leadership program are being converted for online delivery. There are six of the twelve 90 minute modules have been converted and piloted, and the remaining six will be converted and piloted by Feb 2021. As the Pilots are completed, we plan to put these modules out for public purchase and we need marketing support to succeed at that. We are also revising our website in the winter of 2021 and the Marketing Intern will be part of that work as well.

Kings Distributed Systems – 2021 BSI

Kings Distributed Systems (“Kings”) is a Canadian corporation with the mission to make computing more affordable, secure, and interoperable. Its core offering is a software platform that makes running modern applications cheap and easy through a global ‘marketplace’ for computing resources. One of Kings’ most important target markets is the academic and higher education space, which is grappling with a low supply of the advanced computing resources it needs for many institutions to be competitive. Although Kings has made significant inroads with major Canadian and international institutions, it must build upon its strategy for outreach and engagement with these. In order to meet its goal of providing advanced compute resources for dozens of universities worldwide in 2021, Kings is bringing aboard a business strategy intern with experience in both the research and IT side of the higher education market. The company looks forward to this project to both grow its international footprint, while ensuring researchers at post-secondary institutes around the world get access to the infrastructure they need.

Building an Innovative Idea Management Tool

The research aims to help the partner company, Analytic Design Group, assess the market potential
for developing an Idea Management application, use experience-based analysis to investigate the
functionality of an innovative idea management application, and to evaluate the expected returns for
undertaking this project. This is carried out by researching the software market for similar applications.
Then, an experience-based detailed analysis of the closest matches is done to gather insights from
competitors’ application. This will tie qualitative information to any sort of quantitative data the
research may come across and put it in context. The qualitative data includes and is not limited to
information regarding current competitors’ offerings, market trends and the prospects of similar apps
in the North American Market. As a result, ADGI will be able to tweak its proposed app based on
research findings which will ultimately help the firm better target the app in the market…
