Vancouver, B.C., – Mitacs and Sorbonne Universités formalized a partnership today that will support two-way international research opportunities for graduate researchers at Canadian universities and Sorbonne Universités in France.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Mitacs, a Canadian research network that connects university-based researchers with businesses, companies, not-for-profits and government, and Sorbonne Universités, a cluster of five leading French establishments and three national research organizations.
Under the terms of the MOU, the Globalink Research Award – Sorbonne Universités will offer graduate students at Mitacs partner universities in Canada and Sorbonne Universités member institutions in France the opportunity to participate in a 12- to 24-week research project abroad, jointly supervised by faculty at a Canadian University and at Sorbonne Universités.
“Today’s MOU will provide new opportunities for graduate students at Canadian universities and at Sorbonne Universités to promote research, develop collaboration and build joint R&D capacity,” said Mitacs CEO and Scientific Director Dr. Arvind Gupta.
“Thanks to this pilot project, Sorbonne Universités and Mitacs will offer students and researchers an innovative program to support mobility and international partnership, based on the sharing of excellence” said Sorbonne Universités President Thierry Tuot.
An upcoming call for proposals will be jointly announced by Mitacs and Sorbonne Universités in early May 2014.
