Software and Algorithms for Quantum Computational Chemistry

This project is focused on improving the theory, software and scope of applications of quantum computational chemistry. The intern will work with the company research team to further develop new theoretical methods which are under development, implement them into code as part of the existing open-source PennyLane package, and run tests for modelling the vibrational properties of a specific sample molecule. The intern will gain valuable experience working with a leading company in the field of quantum computing and will be able to lead the preparation of a journal-ready article. The company will benefit from the intern’s talent and expertise to push this project forward from theory into implementation and testing. When the resulting software is publicly available, with demonstrated results, it will help more attention and research users to the company’s quantum computing products and services.

Market Research Intern

COVID-19 has reinforced the importance of Sanctuary’s technology for enabling
remote telework with crucial applications in care and food production as well as
many other industry verticals. As the technology platform centers around a
General Purpose Robot (GPR), the importance of understanding tasks through a
general lens allows for the appropriate prioritization of commercial deployments
and assists in defining the technology roadmap. A market research intern is
required to support our Chief Commercial Officer in the ongoing valuation of target
economic tasks.

In this role you will contribute to the research and analytical efforts of the
commercialization team in support of our growing database of labour statistics.
You will seek to understand the value of different work tasks. You will focus on
identifying and analysing existing information about relevant occupations
including time-motion studies. In addition, when no published resources are
available for a given occupation, you will perform primary research through
interviews and other methods to understand the task breakdown of that
occupation.
Responsibilities
– Perform secondary research on occupations particularly as it relates to time and
motion studies to quantify the value of work tasks.
– Performing primary research when necessary, including interviews
– Organize information, and update database with latest findings
– Report analysis in a database/format for consultation with other team members.
Qualifications
– Pursuing or completing a bachelor’s degree in economics, business or a related
field
– Excellent research and writing skills
– High level of organizational and planning skills

BSI Startup Support

Through this BSI internship, the student intern will make themselves available to the startups within the Town of Innisfil’s (“TOI”) business incubator, to provide them with business strategy and legal guidance. Much of this work will include assisting a variety of technology startups with intellectual property research and strategic guidance in the interest of ensuring that these Canadian ventures are putting their best foot forward, all while mitigating any unnecessary risk. The law student intern will coordinate weekly meetings and drop-in times for the startups within the TOI incubator to outline some of the legal and intellectual property research they need to complete. The student would then carry out this research and provide the startups with comprehensive reports addressing the concerns of the startups. These reports will be written by the law student and then submitted to the faculty and legal supervisors for review. The idea of this internship is to provide new Canadian ventures, within the partner organization’s incubator, with accessible, affordable, and comprehensive intellectual property and legal strategy. Metamaterials toolbox:Tuning heat flow at will in the Si-based materials at nano- and mesoscales – Year two

Heat management in semiconducting nanomaterials requires the design of engineered artificial structures, known as metamaterials, where thermal properties can be tuned almost at will by microstructural modifications. Testing a broad range of nanostructures for the particular device applications, with predictive behavior, is a grand challenge especially because of the difficulties associated with the experimental synthesis of the pristine samples, their char- acterization and property calculations. For example, the silicon-on-insulator technology, used as the building block of sensors designed by our industrial partner, gives rise to particularly complex phenomenology. These materials exhibit anisotropic heat flow that often greatly influences their heat transport behavior and thus impacts device performance either in a positive or negative way. Therefore, there is a strong industrial need to develop a material toolbox, with highly predictive structure-property relations to match particular device applications. Our goal is thus to respond to this need by mean of molecular dynamic simulations by constructing a multidimensional phase diagram that will incorporate a broad range of metamaterial structures and physical properties in order to explain, design, and propose experiments for new directions with the precise property predictions.

Cancer Care Coordination: A Pilot Project

Emerging my previous research with BC Cancer Agency is the notion of care coordination, a fundamental component of supportive care. Care coordination is an approach to care that attends to the unique needs of patients from the time of diagnosis through treatment and beyond across the following domains: practical, family (relationships), emotional, spiritual, physical, social, informational, and psychological. While some components of this work are already undertaken by RNs at BCCA, missing is the ability to attend to these domains consistently and in a coordinated fashion across the care continuum. With an interest to improve BCCA patients’ experience of cancer care and pulling together findings from our previous research, this study proposes a pilot study of care coordination that will focus on three distinct processes: assessment, care planning, and follow up. In this study, these processes will be formalised with patient participants.

Analyste bourses et subventions – volet 1

Le but du projet proposé est de cartographier l’écosystème de bourses et subvention du Canada, de définir des indicateurs pertinents de classification et enfin de déterminer une méthodologie efficace pour l’accompagnement des startups du Centech dans leur recherche de financement non dilutif.
Dans ce projet, il faudra, notamment :
– Effectuer une veille sur les différentes offres de bourses et subventions qui existent au Canada parmi les organismes subventionnaires (CNRC, CRSNG, Mitacs, MAPAQ, MEI, Investissement Québec, Fondations, SCALE AI, PROMPT etc…)
– Recenser les différents programmes et identifier leur principales caractéristiques (à quel besoin le programme répond-il (R&D, commercialisation, formation, embauche d’employés, embauche de stagiaires, crédits d’impôts, collaboration, exportation,…) ? À qui s’adresse-t-il (compagnies, startups, centre de recherche, étudiants, professeurs,…) ? Quels sont les critères d’application (citoyenneté, tranche d’âge, localisation particulière, secteur d’activité, pour les femmes, pour les minorités) ? Quelle est la date limite (date fixe 1 fois par année, appel à projets, en continu)).
– Développer un roadmap de bourses et subventions pour aider les entreprises du Centech à accéder à l’information rapidement
– Trier les subventions en fonction de certaines thématiques (AI, santé, agro-alimentaire et &environnement, industrie 4.0, quantique, etc…) et développer une classification pertinente
