La réduction des émissions CO2 reliées à la production du béton est un défi important pour l’industrie. Le programme de recherche présenté vise à intégrer l’intelligence artificielle dans la production du béton. À terme, une usine « intelligente » pourra utiliser chacun des constituants du béton à son plein potentiel par une optimisation de la production en fonction de critères techniques, économiques et environnementaux. La présente demande combine l’analyse de données multivariée de données de production à l’étude des mécanismes par lesquels les variables de procédés influent la stabilité du béton produit en usine. Cette approche conjointe permet de cibler les facteurs ayant un réel impact sur la production de béton, de mieux les comprendre et d’avoir un réel impact sur la production de béton.

This project will ensure that management systems are aligned across business units from Sales and Marketing to Operations, Implementation, and post-market analysis. This project is essential to Dataffinity Health because we are rapidly growing and are running into scalability issues caused by our information management systems. We need new ways to monitor and measure operational activities to continuously grow and improve our processes while ensuring the appropriate training programs are in place for key personnel.

The intern(s) will work closely with functional area teams as WINS navigates before and after impacts of Covid-19 over the next few months. As reflected in the job description, they’ll play a pivotal role in helping adapt our current practices (as well as identify new ones) in the areas of Finance & Accounting, Fund Development, HR, Health & Safety, IT, and Marketing as required as a result of Covid-19. New organizational practices will be the basis of our updated business strategy, goals, and objectives that reflect the new reality we operate in.
Significant opportunities will be available in the relaunch of our Retail Ready Employment Service, as well look for innovative ways to continue offering the service. This will include updated health and safety practices, training manuals, and streamlining of processes.
Additionally, our Fund Development Team will be doing a deep dive analysis on the changes in donor behavior. This project will work to identify changes, efficiencies, and recommendations on new strategies for attracting donations.

Development of a rapid, point of care, COVID-19 detection system using proximity-based electrochemical principles

Rapidly detecting SARS-CoV-2 in infected individuals remains a critical problem in Canada. The current detection method is hindered by the need for highly trained personnel and expensive laboratory equipment. Such requirements cause long wait times and reduce the ability to manage the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. This Mitacs Accelerate project aims at addressing such problems, i.e., developing a rapid, easy-to-use, point of care (POC) detection system for hospitals, airports, long-term care facilities and working places. This goal is achievable because Metabolic Insights Inc (MII), the partner organization, has designed electrochemical sensors and analysis software that is user-friendly and requires little to no training. MII’s current sensor system can accurately detect DNA in solution; the interns conducting this project will enhance and optimize MII sensors to allow for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 protein in solution, making it a faster, more cost-effective alternative to current testing.

Structural Integrity Assessments for Strain-Based Design of Pipelines

Structural integrity assessments play a key role in ensuring the safe service of oil/gas pipelines. In recent years, significant developments in pipeline strain-based design have taken place to account for the large plasticity involved in the installation and operation of pipelines. However, current methodologies cannot properly address the effects of anisotropic material properties and weldments on the behaviours of defects in pipelines. It is proposed here to develop fracture mechanics methodologies that quantify these effects. Both global and local approaches will be used in the study. Numerical simulations, employing micromechanical models, and experimental testing of various laboratory specimens will be carried out to quantify the ductile fracture behaviors. The outcome of the research will enable more reliable assessments for pipeline structural components. BMT Canada is one of the industrial leaders in providing pipeline structural integrity assessment services. Through the proposed research project, BMT Canada will be well positioned in providing the best engineering services, and stay ahead of the competitors.
