Doggy Bathroom – Digital Marketing Manager Intern Application

The project is to plan an integrated digital marketing strategy for the remainder of the year. Through analyzing sales and advertising data, I will translate the results into insights for future campaigns. Working with the photographers and graphic designers, I will schedule and execute the campaigns accordingly. Following execution, success of the campaigns will be measured by key metrics which I will analyze in order to continuously improve strategy.

Miistro

The project that Miistro would delegate to the intern would be based on the strengths/interests of the intern in order to leverage their skills to gain experience and bring value to its users. In terms of user engagement, the project would include conducting questionnaires with current Miistro users, strategizing outgoing marketing campaigns, and cultivating strong relationships with our users. In terms of accounting, the project would include reviewing our numbers, conducting reports in order to gain insight into growth and expense saving opportunities, and to also polish our already robust system processes.

EaseCare/Mitacs Internship

As we are focused in the area of mental health, we want to ensure we get a clear understanding of the competitive landscape in general telehealth both nationally and internationally. We seek to further understand the current methodologies and platforms that exist and explore how we can best position our offering. As we further launch our services, we want to clearly articulate our value proposition and how we can
help Canadians in need. We need assistance in terms of marketing strategies, client cultivation, creation of a community, brand expansion and general analysis of opportunities and risks. This is a high paced, rapid growth start up in a high demand industry.

Momentum Development Support

The intern would write a business strategy for expansion into other jurisdictions and a review of Momentum’s existing internal structure and identify a) if any new roles or organizational changes are necessary to support growth and expansion into multiple jurisdictions, and b) what roles should be prioritized in development of the other service streams in the business strategy. This project would inform a critical element of the long-term growth and sustainability of Momentum Development Support Corporation. It would also provide an opportunity for Momentum to work with other jurisdictions to address their service delivery needs and provide persons with I/DD with necessary opportunities, and supports where required, to meet their individualized needs in the community.

Respiratory Health System and Pandemic Early Warning System

The goal of this project is to develop a low-cost ventilation system which accurately detects and records both patient treatment data and environmental data is in great need. Further, such a system will allow to create a global health map. This research and resulting hardware and software will not only benefit the current research of COVID-19, but also assist in the long term identification and management of potential respiratory pandemics.

Sustainability Framework for Junior Mining Companies

This project seeks to develop a sustainability framework for junior Canadian mining
companies that identifies and reconciles core sustainability obligations in the mining sector.
The scope of this framework will include governance, transparency, health and safety,
environmental performance, climate mitigation, project financing and engagement with
communities. The project will help to determine which standards, practices and processes
should be adopted to improve their sustainability performance. This framework will help this
company to reduce risk and will help to bolster their sustainability performance and
reputation. It is our hope that the project will resonate with other juniors and mid-tier
companies in the mining sector and thus also transfer these benefits to these firms, raising
the sustainability performance of the industry as a whole.

Development of a UV-LED based surface disinfection system

Respiratory droplets of pathogens, such as SARS-CoV-2 in the current COVID-19 pandemic, spread not only from person to person via direct contact, but also indirectly via contaminated frequently touched surfaces. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is known as the gold standard of disinfection technology, where the DNA of microorganism are damaged by high energy UV photons. The traditional method to produce UV radiation is using medium-pressure or low-pressure mercury lamps, which are bulky, high energy consuming, and not environmentally friendly. An emerging method to produce UV rays is based on semiconductors which is the method utilized in ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV-LEDs). These new sources of radiation have a smaller footprint and instant on-off capability, which make them suitable to be used in many disinfection applications. The goal of this project is to develop an unprecedented UV-LED based disinfection device which can be utilized for the disinfection of various frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs and door handles, as one of the most common sources for virus transmission through surface. The system developed in this work can be installed on most of the surfaces to kill harmful pathogens, such as SARS-CoV-2.

Multi-chip Integration of Lasers and Silicon Photonics

In the era of big data, internet of things and cloud computing, the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth density causes a bottleneck in inter and intra-datacenter communication systems. Optical integrated circuits based on the silicon-on-insulator platform is a well-known solution to overcome the bottleneck in data rate transmission. It is an interesting platform as it can be fabricated through existing CMOS technologies and the high index-contrast between core and cladding helps realize compact, and low loss structures. However, in silicon alone, the realization of on-chip, reliable, laser sources are not yet possible. By using various packaging hybrid methods, we integrate lasers made with other materials onto silicon photonics to realize on-chip light sources. We then characterize these chips in terms of coupling-loss and reliability. The company will benefit from the diversification of capability for laser-SiP attach and coupling.

An updated nutrient budget for the Lake of the Woods and options for management

The Lake of the Woods (LOW) is a large transboundary lake that frequently experiences toxic algal blooms that are caused by excessive nutrient inputs to the lake from its watershed. The objective of this research is to quantify nutrient delivery to the LOW from atmospheric deposition and rivers draining the Canadian portion of the basin and use this information to guide management efforts.

Design Analytics and Design Reporting Tools

Design data is broadened beyond specifying built-environments to support evidence-based decision-making in the early phases of design. For using data, designers usually rely on specialized data visualizations. There is a need for interfaces specifically tailored for reporting designs with their form and performance data to and for seeking feedback from the other stakeholders who are not directly involved in design. Given their diversity and complexity of the design data, such interfaces are hard to develop. This project aims to identify, develop, and validate practical key features of data analytics interfaces for sharing design alternatives with the design stakeholders to support online group decision-making. These interfaces will become part of a platform for data-driven design exploration. This combines the fields of visual analytics and design, which we call design analytics. Using Design-through-Research with use-case driven software development methods, the project will demonstrate use of design analytics in group decision-making in design workflow.

The Impact of Sustained Time in Human Care on the Migratory Behaviour of the Endangered Loggerhead Shrike

Our research will assess the degree to which variation in migratory behavior in Loggerhead Shrike is altered due to sustained periods of captivity. Information will be obtained from a captive population of Loggerhead Shrike. Behaviour of captive birds will be recorded on video cameras and analyzed to determine the level of migratoriness displayed by differently aged birds. The pedigree (i.e. relatedness) of each bird will be used for analyses of heritability of migratory behaviour. By working within a species, our experimental design will control for differences in dispersal ability inherent among species.

Rethinking Housing Market Financing in the Aftermath of COV?D-19: Lessons from and Responses to the Pandemic

As Covid-19 Pandemic shows that we are surrounded by global unforeseen risks. Housing and housing financing are significant parts of people’s life and global crises may always put people’s right to housing in danger. For this very reason, it is a necessity to look for alternative financing models for housing as affordability would decrease the potential risks that people may face in the cases of global crises. Therefore, this project aims at working on alternative financing models in order to find the most proper and the best models for creating affordable housing systems. As housing becomes affordable the society will be resilient against potential global risks.
