Supply Chain Efficiency Enhancement through Digital Contract Management

??Judge and Associates currently face challenges in managing contracts efficiently within their real estate operations. The manual process of contract management using paper documents and spreadsheets is labor-intensive and prone to errors. There is a need for automation to streamline the contract lifecycle from creation to renewal while ensuring compliance and accuracy. This project aims to evaluate the process, analyze and create a new digital contract management process.

Continued Development of a Mobile Application

Ksalsuti creates materials and programming to improve the social and emotional wellness of children and youth. Ksalsuti has published its first three books from the Turtle Island Series in three languages. Each book contains culturally appropriate material that promotes wellness in children. Ksalsuti is experiencing growth and also requires additional capacity. Ksalsuti hired an intern in the spring of 2023 to create a mobile application to extend the exposure of its newly published books. A second intern in the fall and winter semesters 2023-24 further improved its functionality, design, and user interface. The app would greatly benefit from another co-op student who can further implement a kid-friendly interface as the project evolves, fully implement the app into the app store and Google Play store, and expand the gamification of the app.

Ruggedized OLED Displays

While OLED displays are now a relatively-mature technology, they have been almost exclusively targeting consumer electronics. As such, the ultimate goal of this ambitious collaboration will be to: Evaluate the technology and supply chain readiness of actual OLED and other emerging display technologies. Assess their potential for cockpit (critical) and cabin (passenger-level) aeronautics and train applications. Propose a ruggedization and certification strategy to potentially allow their integration at both levels, including the identification of potential suppliers Evaluate and propose recommendations to complete the path to certification for cockpit & cabin applications in aircrafts and trains.

Explore Lethbridge: Strategic Engagement of Tourists with Community Enterprises via App Technology

The “Explore Lethbridge” initiative aims to develop a Progressive Web App (PWA) that functions as an innovative platform for tourists to explore and interact with local businesses in Lethbridge. With an intuitive interface, the app will provide tourists with up-to-date information, offer incentives such as prizes, and feature interactive elements to highlight local attractions and services. The primary advantage for Tourism Lethbridge will be a marked increase in tourist engagement and a boost to the local economy. Additionally, this project will gather essential data on tourist preferences and behaviours, which will be instrumental in refining strategic planning and marketing campaigns to enhance Lethbridge’s attractiveness as a tourist destination.

Intelligent Virtual Avatar

In 1985 a fictional avatar named Max Headroom became a common site in the entertainment industry as a digital presenter. This has evolved into a common commercial online entity known as a chatbot. The level of sophistication of these bots varies from company to company. Titan 1 Studios is interested in creating a high-fidelity intelligent avatar utilizing generative AI technology and recent advances in meta-human AI platforms. These advanced capabilities will allow for multiple possibilities with interactions that can be both integrated into existing projects within Titan 1 Studio’s portfolio as well as new possible sales verticals.

Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology for Digital Storage and Preservation Systems: A Prototype Runway for 221A

Vancouver non-profit 221A is interested in using decentralized ledger technology (DLT) to offer secure, reliable, context preserving, cost-efficient, and carbon-neutral permanent storage services for digital cultural work. This research project will identify a storage solution for 221A that will preserve digital assets in the long term. Final outputs include a whitepaper and presentation deck featuring an analysis of existing blockchains and DLT-based storage services, analysis of stakeholder survey data, systems architecture map, basic wireframe, and production roadmap, all to support the development of a functional prototype. Optimally, the proposed solution will scale to serve local and national arts and cultural heritage organizations.

Enhance Baseband Bandwidth for Rydberg Atom-Based RF Sensors

Rydberg atom-based sensors are a room temperature quantum technology for detecting radio frequency waves. These sensors have advantages such as electromagnetic transparency and ultrabroadband carrier frequency detection capability that are not possible to obtain with conventional antennas. The advantages lead to a host of applications in radio frequency technologies such as communications, particularly 5G and 6G, and radar. Quantum Valley Ideas Laboratories is a world leader in this area of research and is driving Canada towards pioneering commercialization of the technology. The students working on this project will gain valuable experience in quantum technologies and contribute towards increasing the baseband bandwidth of these novel sensors.

IMS applications deployed in virtualization and cloud environments (OpenStack and KVM)

The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a key component in the Mobile Next Generation Network, which is used by telecommunications operators throughout the world to provide access to multimedia and broadband services. As these services become more sophisticated, and as the number of clients rises drastically, it is increasingly expensive to install and operate a network that will satisfy the users’ expectations. Cloud computing (combined with high-speed networks) provides a potential method for reducing the installation and operational costs of IMS. However, its use may introduce performance degradation in certain parameters, such as the delay. We will construct a test environment that will permit us to build queuing models for a cloud-based IMS system, which in turn will permit predicting hardware requirements to meet given performance expectations. Successful adaptation of IMS to the cloud-based environment will permit telecommunications operators to improve the availability of their systems, which will enhance the user experience.
