Schneider Electric (SE) is developing their EcoStruxure Building Operations (EBO) system as a next generation Building Management System (BMS) that will combine data collected from the building into a Smart Digital Model (“Digital Twin”) that will be able to answer building users’ questions. This project will develop the tools necessary to develop such a Digital Twin, including defining its capabilities, identifying the information required to achieve the required functionality (including data formats and organizational structure), and developing a working prototype for a reference building.
This project investigates a new perspective on the intersections of architectural form generation, sustainability, building performance simulation and computation, and is meant to research an energy performance-driven building space organization method in the preliminary design phase.
It will enquiry clear design questions, and present results using a visualization method that addresses the problem for both architect and engineer. Accompanying with computer algorithmic form generation, it will facilitate the designers with more solutions scientifically, efficiently and economically.
The proposed research will follow four steps within the scope of this Mitacs grant:
1. Collect data from existing sources, including the CACB, regarding Canadian Schools of Architecture statistics;
2. Find gaps in the data collection and seek out the missing data from Schools of Architecture and/or the partner organizations;
3. Collate the data as a whole and begin quantitative analysis according to several questions outlined above (i.e. how many hours does each School devote to design studio instruction per week?);
The intern will work with a multi-disciplinary research team from architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, biology, business development and materials research in the design development phase of a project to create a structural insulated panel prototype from cellulose. As the most abundant organic polymer on the planet, cellulose is currently emerging as a sustainable material alternative to plastics and other non-recyclable materials.
Ecology North wants to hire architecture, engineering and urban interns to assists in the research, outreach, awareness and education of the world’s most advanced sustainable building practices, towards the creation of a building that makes the best use of regenerative architecture, to heal the planet and the people. The project is for the construction of the Northern Centre for Sustainability.
This project seeks to accumulate information on several focused research initiatives, either recently completed or currently being conducted by partners of the Living Architectural Systems (LAS) group, and provide analysis of these with respects to their potential contribution to a paradigm of living systems in architecture. This project is embedded in the need to transcend the communication/methodological barriers seen in traditional interdisciplinary collaborations.
Heritage information plays an essential role in the adequate planning and monitoring of conservation strategies. Digital tools have revolutionized the speed and the accuracy in recording heritage places. This pilot project addresses how to integrate information gathered through digital technology into coherent graphic record (floor plans, section, and elevations) and how to understand the relationship between recording and good conservation decision-making. It will test how to integrate strategies for emerging digital technologies in the rehabilitation of architectural heritage.
The objective of this project is to develop an analytics tool for REALPAC to use to better classify buildings using the â20 x â15â dataset collected by REALPAC since 2009. Preliminary analysis has been conducted of this data in past years, but this has been limited to a simple retrospective analysis.
Researchers have recognized Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) potential but have not fully understood the benefits of ICTs as ways of strengthening rural communities in places such as Manitoba.
The following proposal is to research and develop Net Zero Energy (NZE) capable sustainable design strategies for Legado, a large building development planned for Griffintown, Montreal. Two interns will work with 7983859 CANADA INC. under the supervision of professors from the School of Architecture at McGill University and the Centre for Zero Energy Building Studies at Concordia University in conducting this research over 12 months.
