This project will ensure the success and long]term viability of the Canadian music wiki in development at CBC Radio 3. The usergenerated, participatory online resource focuses exclusively on Canadian music and Canadian musicians, using wiki software that empowers citizens to become creators of content. This project would examine issues of quality assurance and usability, develop and implement a communication and marketing plan, and examine and develop best practice guidelines for community management.
The overall objective is to design a learning system that takes a training set of acoustic signals and produces a classifier that can identify the category of the acoustic signal, out of a small number of categories. We have already found that it is important to consider the factors of variation that can influence the signal, and the proposed project aims at exploiting physical modeling knowledge to structure a generative model of the acoustic production of the observed signals.
Monitoring of remotely deployed installations is an expensive and challenging task involving potential risk for unsupervised personnel working in inaccessible locations. To this end, Adigy Canada Inc. is developing an innovative wireless network that is characterized by completely maintenance-free operation, provision of interface for health monitoring wireless wearable sensors, localization of subjects, and an intrusion sensor interface.
In this project, in collaboration with the Linxoft team, the intern will focus on new and complex location-based intelligence search engines using advanced optimization algorithm and new software toolkit to query data in both spatial and non-spatial relational databases, perform radius-based search calculations, and plot the results onto a mapping interface such as Google Maps, Virtual Earth, or MapInfo.
In this project, we attempt to investigate the feasibility of using behavioral synthesis technology for large scale chip project. The project will be completed in Metabacus Inc, an Ontario startup company that develops and markets behavioral synthesis technology, which automatically converts software into chip designs. Although promising, one obstacle for the wide deployment of behavioral synthesis as the next generation chip design methodology is demonstrating the success of the technology on large-scale chip project.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often need to share sensitive data with their clients and colleagues. The existing solutions however suffer from limitations that will compromise the integrity of the data or the recipients or the business. In this proposed internship, the intern will work with Bits Republic Technologies, Inc on solutions toward cost]effective and secure data sharing.
Environment-friendly, renewable energy sources are required to meet the world's ever increasing energy demands. While conventional silicon-based photovoltaic solar cells provide an attractive alternative to fossil fuel based energy sources, their inherent high cost has limited their use. The optical rectenna solar cell (ORSC) represents a potential high efficiency, non-silicon based, economic alternative. This internship aims to investigate the design and fabrication of ORSC devices.
In a Healthcare setting, multiple potential interactions, directions and decisions significantly affect the patientfs path throughout the system. It is difficult to determine which changes would be beneficial to patient flow and care prior to making the decision. A decision support tool will allow the decision maker to assess the consequences and effects of a number of possible choices, before implementation. This will allow creating more informed decisions, where the effects are known and understood ahead of time.
This project is designed to develop a decision-support module to be used with electronic patient records. By using innovative methodologies to analyze patient data as well as the sharing of such data with clinicians and the patients themselves, the project seeks to resolve current problems faced by clinical decision-support information systems (including problems that have limited the impact that these systems have had to date on medical practice).
