The primary objective of the project is to assess our business operations in terms of optimization opportunities that may be realized through the integration of AI. Our business is consulting engineering to the land development industry: we sell our time as professionals, we sell our expertise, and we recruit professionals. Our business involves numerous processes, from recruitment, to engineering project management, to design development, to marketing and proposal bid preparation.
Identity is one of the most fundamental aspects of our daily lives. From depositing money into a bank account, to attending a friend’s party, almost all of our activities go through some kind of identity relation. Current systems for managing this vast volume of identity “transactions” are mostly central, causing them to be targets for several kinds of attacks: (1) The identity data can be stolen, (2) the central entity can be subject to coercion, and (3) the user data can be used against the will of the user.
Striped bass, Morone saxatilis, is a popular anadromous fish caught along the Eastern Coast of North American. Striped bass invaded Labrador, NL in August 2017 and, during Part 1 of this study, were identified to feed on Atlantic salmon, cod, char and capelin; important fishes to NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC). The traditional method to identify stomach contents consists of examining stomach contents and morphologically identifying the species consumed.
The land and its foods are extremely important for the health of Indigenous communities. Throughout Canadian history, however, factors have limited Indigenous people’s ability to be able to go out on the land and harvest their foods according to Traditional ways. To combat this today, Elders have been sharing their knowledge about the land with youth to support the continued health of their communities. COVID-19 has made this increasingly difficult, however, as the health of Elders is of outmost importance and social gatherings have been limited as a result of this.
Pipelines are extremely important for the transportation of oil and gas. Buried pipelines can move in a relatively large distance under special scenarios, e.g. slope failure. Meanwhile, the surrounding soils are subjected to a large deformation. This project aims to develop a computer modeling technique to analyze the large-deformation behavior of soil and its impact on the pipeline. The result will be compared with a previous physical test so that the reliability of this new technique can be evaluated.
Skeletal muscle is a dynamic tissue that undergoes many regeneration processes during our lifetime. Loss of skeletal muscle is known as muscle atrophy or sarcopenia and is directly related with quality of life and life expectancy. There are very few diagnostic tools to identify muscle atrophy and the ones available are time-consuming and expensive. Therefore, the most used diagnostic measure for accessing muscle atrophy and recovery is physical examination for patients with a certain mobility status.
The goal in medicine is prolong life and prevent disease before it spreads and becomes irreversible. There must be a way to easily self-monitor or to allow medical professionals to continuously remotely monitor high risk patients. The main vital signs that ideally should be constantly evaluated are pulse rate, respiration rate, body temperature, oxygen saturation levels and blood pressure. Other secondary figures that should be watched over are glucose levels, cholesterol levels among others.
The proposed project implements the applications of virtual view of indoor environments and objects in 360 degrees, thereby encouraging people to check the information of rooms and products online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, six objectives are proposed, each undertaken by two interns, to build a virtual view system satisfying different scenarios.
This MITACs proposal seeks funding to establish an internship cluster dedicated to researching novel psychedelic compounds for the purposes of treating clients suffering from PTSD and anxiety using its comprehensive psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy treatment model. The objective of this one-year project is to characterize the chemical composition of psychedelic mushrooms, optimizing extraction process, testing extracts and active compounds on insect model, in order to advance the science around the use of psilocybin in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
Sea stacks are natural pillars of rock that are usually found on shorelines. They are fascinating formations that are popular destinations for geotourism, including at the Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park, New Brunswick and Flowerpot Island in Fathom Five Marine Park, Ontario. As they experience continuous wave and tidal erosion, sea stacks eventually collapse. Given their popularity, there is an elevated risk of injury or fatality to visitors that is managed by Parks by limiting access to sea stacks that are closer to collapse.
