The intern will work with the project supervisors to develop an online tool to capture 15 key performance indicators (KPIs) that reflect social and environment performance of co-operatives in Canada. The intern will attend focus meeting with the supervisors in order to identify the co-operative participants requirements. The intern will complete a systems mock-up and detailed user requirements document that will be approved by CEARC. An online web-based system will be developed to gather submitted data, produce benchmarks and functionality to create on-demand reports.

The objective for the full-time 8-month internship, in partnership with Dr. Lingras at SMU and Mitacs is to identify and implement automated text mining technologies and processes as well as analysis and testing tools into a business critical environment.
Through this Mitacs initiative, the Sobey School of Business, Saint Mary’s University, and OEA Technologies, Inc., will cooperatively research and develop online and social media tools that facilitate delivery of professional environmental services in developing countries. The project is to complete an economic impact study on the farmers' market sector in Nova Scotia. The method used to collect the necessary information is called a Rapid Market Assessment. This method is a participatory research method meaning the staff, volunteers, vendors, and customers of the farmers' markets will directly participate in gathering the necessary information. The first step of this project is to train farmers' market staff, volunteers and vendors across the province in this methodology.
The Canadian ASTRO-H Metrology System (CAMS) is a laser-based device that will be designed and built in Canada and flown in space onboard the x-ray telescope, ASTRO-H. The purpose of the CAMS is to accurately measure structural deformations of the telescope structure during observations so the scientific images acquired can be enhanced by removing the errors introduced by the motion. The proposed internship focuses on the implementation of the CAMS device alongside the x-ray telescope.
This project will attempt to validate the presence of a market for location-based user generated content that users would experience with a GPS equipped smartphone. The target markets' demographics and psychographics will be identified in order to find the most appropriate ways to address the market. A marketing plan will detail the methods for connecting with potential users. Different means of monetizing this user-generated content will be researched and an appropriate method will be suggested based on compatibility with the demographic.
