Calls Open for Mitacs – Horizon Europe International Mobility Award

New funding opportunity links Canadian researchers and innovators to EU’s largest flagship funding program.

Ottawa, ON – Mitacs is launching a new call for funding proposals for researchers and companies interested in participating in Horizon Europe, supporting Canadian innovation, international collaboration, and economic competitiveness. Horizon Europe is the world’s largest flagship research and innovation funding program, with a 2021–2027 budget of €95.5 billion (Can$154B).

Mitacs is opening a call for proposals on August 25th for the Mitacs – Horizon Europe International Mobility Award (IMA), designed to enable Canadian researchers to access travel and training support to connect with Horizon Europe partners and large-scale consortia.

In July 2024, Canada joined Horizon Europe as an associated country under Pillar II, focused on creating solutions to today’s most pressing societal issues. Mitacs is helping support Canadian participation in the program, in alignment with Canada’s shared research priorities and recently renewed partnership with the EU. The newly launched funding award will help build on a long history of Canada‑EU collaboration in scientific innovation.

Canadian researchers and enterprises are encouraged to apply for eligible activities, including consortia-building and development of aligned R&D priorities. Awardees will be invited to participate in key events hosted by Horizon Europe, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, and EU research institutions.

The call for proposals for the Mitacs – Horizon Europe IMA will be open from August 25th to September 29th.
