Government of Saskatchewan continues partnership with Mitacs, announcing renewed investment of $1.58 million

Regina, SK – The Government of Saskatchewan will strengthen its partnership with Mitacs, announcing $1.58 million in renewed funding – an increase of $430,000 from last year – for 2025-26. The continued support will enable up to 301 Saskatchewan students and post-doctoral fellows to access research internship opportunities.

The agreement will also provide opportunities to skilled post-secondary interns based in Saskatchewan through Mitacs’s Indigenous Pathways Initiative. This Initiative helps Indigenous-owned businesses and organizations find top talent and co-invest in collaborative R&D projects, as well supports Indigenous students with internship placement.

Since 2018, Mitacs has invested over $50 million into research and development initiatives in Saskatchewan, partnered with seven post-secondary institutions, and delivered over 1,200 innovation projects representing approximately 3,600 internships across the province.

Dr. Jeff Keshen, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Regina

“My degree in Psychology, with a minor in Indigenous Health Studies, from the University of Regina, provided a strong foundation for my Mitacs Indigenous Pathways Internship. Although I was initially unfamiliar with the energy sector, the internship quickly immersed me in the challenges that isolated communities face in securing reliable heat and energy. That experience became a defining one, ultimately leading me back to my nation, Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, where I serve as the new Assistant Land Manager.”
