Bird populations in North America have been in decline since mid-1900s due to a multitude of stressors including pesticide use, habitat loss, predation by cats, as well as window and vehicle collisions. Tommy Thompson Park is a constructed wilderness park in Toronto (Ontario) that is along the migratory path for many species that are exhibiting […]

Cloning technique using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) is valuable in agricultural field since it used to generate elite animals. However, there are various limitations in cloning animals such as occurrence of fetal disease and low success rate. In this project, we aim to optimize a safer and more stable technique that can replace cloning. […]

There is a significant waitlist for clients experiencing cognitive impairment (which can be due to a number of reasons) to receive clinical care. Symptoms may include impairments to attention and executive functions (higher-level cognitive abilities supporting focused task performance) or functional (e.g., vocational or activities of daily living); symptoms may be exacerbated in those who […]

Across the world, rules regarding the legalisation of recreational use of cannabis are changing. This is leading to a perception that cannabis is safe to use: people remain unaware of consequential health risks. The concentration of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), often found in cannabis products, is rising – a concern as THC is known to have psychoactive […]

In the last decades, Kaslo Sourdough Inc. has developed a sourdough propagation scheme for baking and pasta making. This sourdough differs fundamentally from other sourdoughs for which literature data is available in two aspects. First, the sourdough is used for production of bread and pasta. Only limited information is available on the impact of sourdough […]

The project involves development, validation, and application of new medical image analysis algorithm where cortical thickness is measured from serial brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with improved efficiency and greater sensitivity. Cortical thickness is a relatively new metric that correlates with clinical and cognitive worsening in a variety of neurologic disorders such as multiple sclerosis […]

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are used to document the climate impact of construction and other materials. The Company is working with nonprofit BuildingTransparency.org to digitize EPDs and make them available in a free, open-access database. The company uses scripts and AI to read the PDF-based EPDs and digitize them. The project involves reviewing partly-digitized EPDs, […]

Agricultural expansion in northern boreal regions presents an opportunity to generate food security and self-sufficiency in the face of climate change. However, little is known about how conversion of boreal forest to agriculture affects soil arthropod communities, despite their essential role in sustaining crop productivity among many other soil functions essential to human well-being. This […]

The major aim of this research project is to accelerate the development of the SORT1+ oncology platform. This novel platform is based on a new proprietary peptide targeting Sortilin, a key scavenging receptor. Sortilin has been reported to play a role in cell survival and in the progression of human cancers. For instance, Sortilin expression […]

The research project will investigate the impacts of the US-Canada border on conservation of at-risk species around the region of the Okanagan watershed, in the context of culture, politics and land governance. Species distribution modelling will be used to compare distributions of selected species either side of the border, and environmental, social and geographical variables […]

A precursor cell is a special cell that has the capacity to divide and transform into several different cell types, including bone, liver, skin and fat cells. The fate of a precursor cell is dependent on its surrounding environment and the factors the cell is exposed to. These factors trigger specific changes within the precursor […]
