660 News: U of C researcher awarded for work with athletes and sleep

A local researcher is being recognized for her ground-breaking work on sleep in athletes.

Amy Bender is an adjunct professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary.

She has received the Mitacs Award for Commercialism.

“It’s one of six awards from Mitacs awarded annually out of over 1,000 researchers that were nominated, so, it’s pretty exciting,” she said.

Bender developed an online tool that tracks sleep disturbances in elite athletes and recommends effective treatment plans, helping improve their performance.
