Mitacs Honoured with 2024 Workplace Impact Award for Advancing Equity and Inclusion

Toronto, ON — Mitacs is proud to announce it has been named a 2024 Workplace Impact Award Winner by Diversio the leading global platform for workplace inclusion. The award, which is part of Diversio’s Workplace Impact Series, recognizes organizations that are making measurable, systems-level progress in embedding equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across their operations, and leading change in how people experience work.

Mitacs was selected following a competitive process that included submissions from Diversio clients across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. An external evaluation team from the University of Toronto Consulting Association assessed all submissions using a scoring model based on key performance indicators, looking at both quantitative and qualitative impact.

Mitacs’s application stood out for its integrated, organization-wide approach to inclusion through clear priorities, people-focused practices, and strong accountability measures. In addition to demonstrating meaningful impact within the organization, Mitacs’s approach was recognized for its potential to be adapted by other organizations working to advance workplace inclusion. This award reflects and builds on the work outlined in Mitacs’s Inclusive Innovation Action Plan, a multi-year roadmap to embed EDI and reconciliation across its internal systems, external programs, and partnerships. Examples of current initiatives include:

  • Pay transparency on all job postings
  • Internal EDI learning sessions for all staff (minimum four topics annually)
  • Parental leave working groups to improve offboarding, onboarding, and the overall experience for new and expecting parents
  • A remote-first working arrangement that allows staff to choose the environment that best supports their needs

All award recipients will be featured at the 2025 Diversio Changemaker Summit, which will take place virtually later this year.
