Students should provide a copy of their supervisor’s approved academic institution’s Conflict of Interest declaration, or other appropriate documentation — such as a letter or email from the Dean or Department Chair — with their application. The documents must describe the nature of the conflict and the measures in place to manage the conflict.
Generally, Mitacs will accept the mitigation measures put in place by an academic institution. However, when the conflict is considered significant, Mitacs may require that the academic institution appoint an independent administrator to hold the award and to be responsible for ensuring the best interests of the fellow. In such cases, the independent administrator must be included as an applicant, and must submit an independent administrator form to declare that they will act in the best interests of the fellow(s). Please see the Mitacs Conflict of Interest Policy (found in the downloadable General Mitacs Terms, Conditions & Policies zip file under How to Apply) for more information.
