Learn MoreEnergy generation and industrial fabrication produce almost 50% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Hence, industrial fabrication is one of the major contributors to global warming. This has led to an increasing need for environmentally friendly practices that focus on reducing fabrication time and waste. Digital simulation is a great decision-support tool that helps in analyzing waste in processes and investigating improvements in complex manufacturing projects. Construction is among the main industry sectors in Canada, and New Brunswick (NB), that can significantly benefit, both economically and environmentally, from adopting innovative off-site construction improvements. In NB construction industry, OSCO is the industry leading off-site construction group. In this project, an integrated decision-support framework (IDSF) is being developed based on simulation methods to analyze and improve the off-site fabrication supply chain of the company Ocean Steel and Construction Ltd. (an OSCO member). The Off-site Construction Research Center (OCRC) at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) is leading this research.
