Learn MoreL’ammoniac (NH3) et ses dérivés sont des nutriments essentiels pour une agriculture performante. Cependant, la production industrielle de l’ammoniac fait appel à lutilisation de ressources fossiles et requiert une consommation énergétique importante (1 à 2% de la consommation énergétique mondiale). De plus, l’ammonium (NH4+), la forme acide du NH3, est un des polluants les plus problématiques dans les eaux usées. Paradoxalement, lors du traitement de ces eaux, l’ammonium est transformé en nitrate ou en diazote avant d’être rejeté dans l’environnement causant ainsi de nombreux dommages aux cours d’eau. Nous proposons dans ce projet de recherche un procédé bio-électrochimique innovant permettant la récupération et la valorisation de l’azote contenu dans les eaux usées. Ce procédé permettra également une production de dihydrogène et la bio-épuration de la matière organique. TO BE CONT’D
