The XAHIVE mandate is to improve the privacy and security of communication between professionals. At XAHIVE, Carleton students will be researching a differentiator in communication encryption and decryption coupled with a significant increase the convenience while retaining all levels of existing functionality. Additionally, students will be researching methods and processes to convert XAHIVE into an […]

This research project will provide the intern with the opportunity to work with end users (students and faculty) to refine, further develop and test a prototype of NursApp, a learning management system (LMS) designed to create opportunities for students to use technology to learn in post-secondary education. The intern will work with co-owners to conduct […]

The graduate student (Simon Byrns) will work closely with pancreas surgeons and experts in computer image manipulation to generate 3D models of the relevant anatomy in pancreas surgery. These models will then be printed on a 3D printer and used to investigate their utility in the preoperative planning phase prior to surgery. The use of […]

Embedded Software is designed to work with and control physical systems such as car brakes. These systems come in many configurations and the software embedded on them also has to be configured for each one. Software product lining is a methodology to develop a family of related systems that can be configured for each product, […]

The popularity of smartphones is leading to an ever growing number of mobile apps that are published in official app stores. However, users might experience failures and crashes for some apps installed on their devices. For developers, diagnosing failures that users experience is a major challenge, since the diversity of contextual conditions makes it difficult […]

Current advanced audio playback systems can provide a feeling of 3D immersion to listeners. Though the technology to listen to 3D audio can provide a good listening experience, the technology used to create 3D audio content has not adapted to those advances. One major reason is due to human aural localization ability that is not […]

OrbitHub is a web/mobile platform that helps its clients coordinate activities more efficiently and maximize the utilization of their resources and time. In addition to being a global social network, OrbitHub also offers tournament, league and ladder management functionality, as well as registrations, payments, rankings, court booking and more. This project aims to focus on […]

This project examines the relationship between female musicians in music scenes in Toronto and in the cities of Salvador and Recife in Brazil. Female performers from Brazil and other Latin American countries, as well as Canadian-born female musicians make up the majority and the backbone of the Brazilian music scene in Toronto. As these performers […]

Current and near-future D-Wave processors implement optimization using quantum effects on a fixed processor layout. This layout can be modeled as a graph with certain constraints, and the optimization is applied to a specific problem: fixed-topology Ising spin optimization. It is therefore important to study how best to use this hardware to solve combinatorial optimization […]

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems enable network-based monitoring and/or control of processes in various industrial sectors including electrical power distribution, energy, waste water and water. These systems serve as the backbone of much of Canada’s critical infrastructure. Security compromise of SCADA systems allows malicious attackers to gain control of the industrial processes in […]

We will invent new ways of displaying and analyzing data collected by the Government of Saskatchewan. The Ministry of Justice wants to find cheaper ways of helping people make good choices. We will look in the data for connections among the things that people do and have done to them before they get in trouble. […]
