The Emotional Imaging Composer is a system that translates bio-signals into responsive environments in real-time. The sensors capture emotional profiles, reading physiological signals to effectively map a person's emotional state. These signals are then processed to generate a fluid collage of aural and visual images which, when projected into an environment created to receive them, creates a rich, external manifestation of the person's internal emotional experience.
Atmospheric behaviour will change substantially with Climate Change and is one of our generation’s most pressing challenges. The world requires accurate estimates of future the impacts from droughts, floods, heat waves, increase hazards, from freezing rain to hurricane to plan, prepare and mitigate. Combatting climate change requires reducing our emissions in a strategic way. Current computers can only approximate these coming changes.
Curate Mobile operates a demand site platform (DSP), which is an advertising platform responsible for bidding in real time ad placements from various publishers. This process is a blind auction, happening over 50,000 times a second, and during this bidding process we have less then 100ms to determine which of our clients should bid for this ad placement, how much it might be worth to them, and what price we believe we can win this auction for.
This research will explore the connections between nature and people in Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs). These values will be articulated by identifying the ecosystem services (i.e. the goods and services provided to people by nature) and determining which of these hold significant cultural values. These values will be compared using a variety of existing ecosystem service valuation tools.
It is no secret that people strive to be more productive in their personal and professional lives. Productivity applications have made life easier for people by enabling them to meticulously monitor their output in numerous domains. Even so, there remains the problem of how one can most effectively use all this knowledge in order to improve oneself. In the current project, I will work with UpBeing to determine how productivity can be measured and which factors contribute to improved personal productivity.
2.2 billion people live with vision impairment: Over 1 billion of these cases are, or were, preventable/treatable. Most of these individuals live in low income Countries, where access to care can be limited. Why do people still go blind from preventable conditions? In order to treat, first, you need to be able to diagnose. The first step to prevent these conditions is to make diagnostic technology available, accessible, and affordable. This project is to assess the usability and feasibility of portable vision health screening in a clinical environment.
Subtitles are typically generated postproduction and might be mis-aligned with the audio track. Alignment of subtitles to audio is a task which aims to produce accurate timings of the words within a subtitle track given a corresponding audio track. The alignment task is of significant relevance to Bell media. Semi–automated solutions exist, and they involve different degrees of human involvement in post-edit. Automatic subtitle alignment will reduce production time and human labor costs. This research project will look at automating the subtitle alignment.
The data and AI revolution that is sweeping many industries is also poised to revolutionize automation, control and safety in commercial and residential buildings. In order to activate the full power and promise of AI, we need large volumes of data that are accessible at high-speed over physically separated buildings/equipment. The fifth generation (5G) wireless communication networks provide large bandwidth for high throughput data, unparalleled reliability with low latency and high level of security and guaranteed bandwidth.
Scientific research papers are complex, dense, and filled with jargon, so traditionally the valuable knowledge they contain has been accessible to only a handful of experts. SAGE publishing, one of the world’s largest academic publishers, and Dr. Adam Frost, a cognitive neuroscientist, independently created video formats that help scientists directly communicate their discoveries and practices in approachable ways so that that knowledge can reach a much wider audience. Both SAGE and Dr.
