Athlete and Coach Perceptions of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport

Currently, the staff of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) is uncertain of how Canadian athletes, coaches, and members of the Canadian sport community perceives their efforts and programs. This research will identify if the current policies and procedures for anti-doping rule violations reflect the CCES in a positive (advocate for athletes and Canadian sport) or negative (enforcer of rules) role. This proposed research looks to examine how stakeholders view the role of CCES and whether or not their perceptions of the CCES are positive or negative.

Identification of organic disinfection byproduct precursors, Waterhen Water Treatment Plant

There are about 180 public water treatment plants in Manitoba relying on surface water with high organic content as their source of supply. Organic carbon in the water reacts with chlorine during water disinfection. This reaction forms carcinogenic compounds w hich pose a health risk for people consuming the water. The Waterhen water treatment plant is an example of typical Manitoba treatment plant that is suffering from high organic carbon resulting in high concentrations of these carcinogenic byproducts.

A Near Field System based on Modulated Scattering Technique for Microwave Tomography Application

Microwave tomography (MWT) is a relatively new imaging modality that uses electromagnetic radiation to illuminate an object. Using the scattered field by the object of interest, MWT reconstructs the image of the object. We have been doing research on this topic for a few years and we have successfully developed several computational-imaging algorithms and experimental tomography systems at our imaging lab of the University of Manitoba. In order to increase the accuracy of measurements and calibration procedure, we want to increase the number of probing sites in the system.

Human-Computer Interaction, Mobile Device Interactions, Mobile User Interfaces


Navigation interfaces (such as scrolling, zooming, and panning) are the key components that help users move between different views on a document. The project’s goal is to enhance current user interfaces for collaborative search tasks. Initially, we will use spatial documents (ie, maps) to explore potential enhancements. We will also provide visual features, to improve collaborative search tasks, which will show to each user where the other is browsing.
