Business Strategy Internship program once again connecting Canadian students and businesses

Program will support businesses and not-for-profit organizations while providing work-integrated learning opportunities for students and postdocs

Vancouver, BC – Mitacs is pleased to announce that, for the second year in a row, the Business Strategy Internship (BSI) program is connecting students from academic institutions across the country with businesses as the post-COVID-19 economic recovery begins in earnest.

The BSI program will bolster Canada’s economic recovery by supporting businesses with their innovation activities while providing experiential learning opportunities for college, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows across the country. With the guidance of an academic supervisor, these interns will provide technical expertise on everything from operations to finance, to marketing, to intellectual property, and beyond to help businesses develop and implement their innovation roadmap.

This work will support innovation by transferring knowledge between the academic and non-academic sectors; supporting the creation of intellectual property in Canada; promoting collaboration and reducing the risk for companies that engage in innovation; allowing for students to develop professional skills; and providing opportunities for underrepresented groups to foster inclusive innovation.

Qualifying businesses are eligible for significant cost reductions available for a limited time to small and medium-sized businesses and not-for-profit organizations with fewer than 499 employees.

Mitacs is proud to support Canadian businesses as they help to build a more innovative, inclusive, and resilient economy in the years to come.

Dr. John Hepburn, CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs

“Mitacs is proud to be offering the Business Strategy Internship program for the second year in a row. This program will contribute to fostering innovation in Canadian businesses while helping talented students develop their skills outside of an academic setting. Whether businesses are looking to bolster their marketing strategy, their business operations plan, or their approach to intellectual property, Mitacs will be there to support them on their innovation journey.”

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry

“We are thrilled to support innovation in industry that develops the talents of students and graduates in Canada. These young people will gain the skills they need to succeed and bring cutting-edge scientific and technical knowledge to expand the innovation capabilities of Canadian industries and strengthen our economy.”

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade

“This program provides post-secondary students with invaluable experience and tools to be the future leaders in businesses and not-for-profit organizations across Canada. Our small and medium sized businesses are the backbone of our economy and the heart of our communities and the Business Strategy Internship Program participants will play a key role in supporting them in our recovery and for years to come.”
