Message from the CEO and Scientific Director

At Mitacs, one of our core values is integrity. We pride ourselves on operating in an ethical, honest, and transparent manner. We strive to do what is right, not what is easy.

It is easy to state that we stand in solidarity with those protesting the senseless killings of Black people at the hands of police. It is easy to state that we disavow racism. It is easy to state that we believe in equity, diversity, and inclusion.

These statements are easy enough to write, but they are meaningless without action. It is the responsibility of us all to identify concrete ways to be actively anti-racist and amplify the voices of Black, Indigenous, and other people of colour in our communities. The history of violence against Black, Indigenous, and people of colour in Canada is long and shameful. It is the duty of all of us to struggle against racism by becoming anti-racists.

To our Black colleagues and community members — you matter. Your lives matter. We are listening, and we are learning.

— John Hepburn
