Vancouver, BC — During Universities Canada’s mission to Mexico, Mitacs, a Canadian not-for-profit research and training organization, renewed and expanded an agreement with the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), a private, multi-campus university based in Monterrey, Mexico.
The partnership builds on Mitacs and ITESM’s long-standing relationship and will see up to 20 Canadian undergraduate and graduate students travel to Mexico for research projects at the university each year. Additionally, up to 70 senior undergraduate students per year from Mexico will travel to Canada for research internships at universities across the country.
The agreement will be realized through Mitacs’ international research programs, which promote Canada as a top destination for research opportunities and showcase Canadian research expertise around the world. Mitacs has been working with Mexico since 2013, and with the ITESM Monterrey since 2014.
The agreement was signed by Alejandro Adem, CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs, and Alejandra Vilalta y Perdomo, Support Director for Internationalization at Mexico City Region, ITESM. The event was witnessed by the Canadian delegation, Mexican university representatives, Canadian provincial offices, and embassy officials.
