Mitacs and Veyond Metaverse collaborate to make industrial metaverse a reality

Vancouver, BC — Mitacs is pleased to announce the signing of a new research collaboration agreement with extended reality (XR) technology leader, Veyond Metaverse. This collaboration between Mitacs and the Silicon Valley-based company will see the two organizations partner to develop haptic metaverse technology, AI applications for the Veyond Metaverse training platform, and a fully immersive AI-driven communication platform.

In the first phase of research, the partnership will work to improve usability challenges during augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences, particularly in relation to controller-based interaction. Based on computer vision technology, this project will develop hand-based interaction software that enables users to interact with virtual objects in AR/VR without additional devices. Implementing this technology will remove the requirement for specialty devices and make metaverse interaction accessible from mobile, laptop, and other AR/VR environments.

Phase II of the project will include creating an AI-enabled digital twin factory and launching virtual campuses. These initiatives will help lower the steep learning curve typically required for building 3D content for the AR/VR environment while AI is a cornerstone technology, enabling non-programmers to develop their own metaverse. For example, the AI-enabled digital twin factory will allow pharmaceutical companies to replicate the cutting-edge manufacturing plant in any location and can provide education, training, and manufacturing collaboration anywhere and anytime.
