Mitacs to collaborate with Vector Institute to accelerate placement of AI interns into Canadian industry

Vancouver, BC

Mitacs will partner with the Vector Institute for artificial intelligence to rapidly connect machine learning students to employers in Canada. Given the exceptional and urgent demand for machine learning talent, students and postdoctoral fellows in the field will have their internship funding requests accelerated. This will shorten the review period and allow students to be placed into internships more quickly.

Some of the most widely used AI applications – including better and faster predictions, speech and image recognition – are the results of research breakthroughs made in the last ten years. This five-year agreement will assist in the recruitment of high-calibre qualified graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and bring together research collaborations between academia and industry to further innovation in the field of AI, and specifically in machine and deep learning.

AI moves at an incredibly fast pace, and projects must be approved quickly in order to keep up with the latest developments in the sector. Mitacs is very pleased to announce that this partnership will offer a unique, expedited approval process so that Vector Institute researchers may begin work on their projects as soon as possible.

Mitacs is developing the next generation of innovators with vital scientific and business skills through unique research and training programs. In partnership with organizations such as the Vector Institute, Mitacs is supporting a new economy using Canada’s most valuable resource — its people.
