New program for social sciences and humanities innovation in Quebec

Montréal, QC — The Fonds de recherche du Québec — Société et culture (FRQSC) and Mitacs are joining forces to advance bilateral research exchange by deploying the Accelerate program, which will support research internships in five areas: social sciences and humanities, education, management, arts, and literature.

Up to 65 grants of $15,000 will be offered to master’s or PhD students in Quebec to carry out research internships of four to six months with companies and not-for-profit organizations.

This new program aims to stimulate interest in knowledge application and the acquisition of professional experience in a practical setting. It is intended to foster collaboration between academia and public, parapublic, and private sector organizations by reducing the investment asked of the internship host. These host organizations will thereby be able to push forward their innovation projects by relying on the collaboration of graduate interns and researchers who will supervise them.

Quotes:

Louise Poissant, Scientific Director, Fonds de recherche du Québec — Société et culture

“If there’s generally strength in unity, collaborative research within science and innovation is definitely a guarantee of success. Supporting the graduate student researchers, the professors who supervise their internships, and the people within the companies that host them means contributing to the strength and vitality of Quebec. Partnering with Mitacs — an organization that strongly supports innovation and partnership to foster research collaborations — makes perfect sense.”

Eric Bosco, Chief Business Development Officer, Mitacs

“We are proud to pursue this partnership with FRQSC in the areas of social sciences and humanities, education, management, arts, and literature, while reducing the investment required from partner organizations. This effort — only made possible thanks to our provincial and federal funders — ensures that the program remains accessible in the current context and maintains strong innovation levels.”
