The participant, host supervisor, home supervisor, and host institution should negotiate and establish an agreement in advance. Students are advised to confirm in advance the rules and regulations governing patents and other intellectual property rights on research results obtained in Japan during their internship.

When applying for patents or other intellectual property rights, participants should first notify their host institution’s administrative office that (1) they intend to make such application and (2) the subject research was conducted under the Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program.
